It is more then just 'height profile' that is the issue. If they replaced anything, it would be IFVs and that is extremely unlikely to happen as Mechs, especially large ones, are a piss poor idea. The debate on Mechs vs Tanks is kinda flawed to begin with as Mechs will never replace tanks. I found Gundam dull and boring and never bothered trying to watch it again.
The tanks can just sit back on the outskirts and just start blowing the city to pieces until there's no where for the Mecha to hide (if that's what they choose to do.ĭon't know much about team robot. There's no need for the tanks to go into street to street fighting, where the anthropomorphized Mecha will have the advantage of mobility. My ASSUMPTION is, the tanks will be harder to hit, and the Mecha will sustain more damage. Now I understand that these large robots, or Mecha, are supposed to be super durable and have fantastic weapons (maybe the tanks are too, I don't know), but conventional wisdom says that in the race between armor and ordnance.ordnance will eventually win out. The tank that gets seen first typically dies. The reason we won't be seeing big fighting robots (probably this century) is that current, and so far correct theory, is that the lower the profile of an armored vehicle (especially tanks) the longer it will survive and be able to deliver damage. I haven't seen any of these anime (though I certainly know who Megatron is :) ), so I don't know if real world thinking applies.
